The Faces Behind the Flavor

Jessica King - founder
Jessica is the founder & visionary behind the concept.
Jessica was born in Lenox Hill Hospital, Manhattan, New York and was raised in Astoria. She graduated from the Upper East Side's Saint Vincent Ferrer High School. She then attended The Fashion Institute of Technology where she took interior design, in addition to marketing. She took her branding skills to help restaurant business owners with launching and opening new concepts. After a decade of her accomplishments in the food & beverage industry, including working for major NYC hospitality groups in Manhattan's Meatpacking district (Soho House & Pastis) and Midtown's Fifth Avenue (Fig & Olive), she opened her first small business, Astoria Provisions in Astoria in 2017.
She recalls 'Budgets, blueprints, working with contractors and of course a bit of my aesthetic are all standard elements I used for this project. But the heart and soul I put into this specific location was organic. I remember a young me running up and down these streets with my cousins, going to and coming from the park (Astoria Park). I just felt that extra need to represent my community, when we first broke ground here.' This was a passion project through and through.
Now, Jessica lives and works in Connecticut.

John Parlatore - chef owner
Chef John Parlatore was born and raised in Carmel, New York and knows one thing; food.
Since graduating The French Culinary Institute in Manhattan, he’s launched 8 New York City restaurants; two of which he owns. Prior to opening Gastroteca in Astoria, John was invited on three occasions to the prestige’s festival of gastronomic cuisine in Mougins France, the world largest gathering of two and three stars Michelin chefs. He was the only American chef for two of those years.
Chef Parlatore brings more than 17 years of restaurant and culinary knowledge in companies ranging from small boutique private clubs to multimillion-dollar restaurant groups. A product of Up State New York, Mr. Parlatore always dreamed of owning New York City restaurants. That dream was recognized in 2013 with the opening of Gastroteca Astoria. In 2014 Chef Parlatore and Gastroteca were awarded with the Michelin bib gourmand.
Now, John owns & operates Astoria Provisions.
